Thai Express is the UK's leading Thai quick-service restaurant chain, operating nine locations across England and Scotland as of May 2025. The UK master franchise is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Uzma and Sachin Pattani, who brought the Canadian-founded brand to the UK in 2012, opening their first location in Guildford, Surrey. The global Thai Express brand, owned by MTY Food Group, operates over 300 locations worldwide across Canada, the US, UAE, and the UK.
The chain positions itself as a fast-casual alternative to pre-packaged sandwiches and burgers, offering authentic Thai cuisine cooked fresh to order by specially trained wok chefs in open-plan kitchens. All meat served is halal, making it one of the few Thai chains in the UK catering to Muslim diners. The menu centres around Pad Thai, curries (green, red, yellow), stir-fries, fried rice, and soups like Tom Yum, with dishes typically priced between £7 and £13. In recent years, the Pattani's have introduced a dine-in format called "Thai Express Kitchen" (first launched in Edinburgh, followed by Bristol), alongside the original food-court/quick-service model. They have also launched a Japanese cuisine concept called Japami in Nottingham, with all three brands now sitting under a new parent company, Supa Group.
