Mango Tree was a Thai fine-dining restaurant located at 46 Grosvenor Place in Belgravia, London SW1X 7EQ, just a five-minute walk from Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station. Founded in 2001 by Malaysian-born restaurateur Eddie Lim, it was the first overseas outpost of the Mango Tree brand, which originated in Bangkok in 1994 under the Coca Holding International group led by Thai CEO Pitaya Phanphensophon. The London restaurant was the flagship UK venue and the brand's only full-service UK restaurant, though it also operated a concession in Harrods' food hall at one point.
The restaurant occupied a spacious, feng shui-designed dining room that seated approximately 160 covers, featuring a cocktail bar at the entrance, modern decor, and large flower arrangements. It positioned itself as a high-end Thai dining destination serving dishes representing all four main culinary regions of Thailand — north, north-eastern (Isan), central, and southern. The menu included classic dishes such as tom yum goong, pad Thai, green curry, massaman curry, and more elaborate creations like lobster in choo chee red curry sauce and duck spring rolls. A pre-theatre set menu (2 courses £17 / 3 courses £20) was offered alongside an a la carte menu with starters from £8–£13 and mains from £15–£30. The restaurant gained additional fame after being mentioned favourably in J.K. Rowling's 2014 crime novel *The Silkworm* (published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith) and after appearing on BBC *MasterChef*.
The chain's UK presence ended in July 2024 when the Belgravia location closed after the landlord forfeited the lease. A notice dated 23 July 2024 was posted on the property addressed to Coca Restaurants (UK) Limited, stating that the landlord had re-entered and secured vacant possession by changing the locks. Diners were unable to make reservations on the website, which displayed: "Sorry bookings are not currently available." The closure came amid significant financial difficulties — Coca Restaurants' accounts to 30 December 2022 showed shareholder losses of £242,954 (almost double the previous year's £134,460 loss), with creditors due within one year rising to £929,804 from £107,431 in 2021. The legal entity, MANGO TREE RESTAURANT LIMITED (company number 04166789), was dissolved on 15 April 2025 via compulsory strike-off, having filed dormant company accounts for several years prior to closure.
Globally, the Mango Tree brand — operated by parent company Coca Holding International and franchised through Exquisine Global — continues to operate 70+ restaurants across 14 countries in Asia (Thailand, Japan, China, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong) and the Middle East, with multiple formats including flagship fine-dining restaurants, Mango Tree Cafes, Mango Tree Kitchen grab-and-go concepts, and airport locations. The group had aimed to reach 100 locations by 2025, but the UK market proved unsustainable.
