Camile Thai (also branded as Camile Thai Kitchen) is an Irish-founded restaurant chain serving Thai cuisine with a distinctive health and wellness positioning. Established in Dublin in 2010 by Brody Sweeney (previously of O'Briens Irish Sandwich Bars), the chain operates on a franchise model and has expanded throughout Ireland and the UK. The brand entered the UK market in 2017 with its first London outlet, and at its peak in 2021-2022 had approximately 10 UK locations alongside 35+ in Ireland, giving a combined total of 45+ outlets across the UK and Ireland.
The chain positions itself as a "good mood Thai food" brand, targeting health-conscious consumers who want restaurant-quality Thai cuisine delivered to their homes. Every menu item is calorie-counted with full macronutrient breakdowns, certified by nutritionists, and the brand caters extensively to special diets including vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and lactose-free customers. Camile was the first restaurant chain in Europe to introduce fully compostable delivery packaging and has pioneered drone delivery trials in partnership with Manna Drones, as well as robotic wok systems in its kitchens. The menu features Thai classics such as Pad Thai, Green Curry, Massaman Curry and stir-fries, with mains typically priced between £11-16.
The UK operation experienced a significant setback when Camile Thai Kitchen (UK) Ltd entered voluntary liquidation in April 2023. Since then, the UK estate appears to have contracted to approximately 6-7 active locations across London (Clapham, Epsom), Hampshire (Winchester), Dorset (Winton/Bournemouth), and Northern Ireland (Belfast's Lisburn Road and Ballyhackamore), with a Southampton site listed as "coming soon." The company continues to actively seek franchisees in Southeast England and Northern Ireland, suggesting a strategy of rebuilding the UK presence through franchising rather than direct operation. As of 2024, the brand appointed a new CEO, Daniel Greene, and maintains ambitious longer-term expansion plans.
