📋 Where does the data come from? ▼
All data comes from the Food Standards Agency — the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS) for Scotland. We query every establishment whose business name contains "Thai" and whose business type is restaurant, cafe or canteen. The current dataset was extracted on 19 October 2026.
🏴 What about Scotland? ▼
Scotland runs a separate scheme that reports Pass, Improvement Required or Exempt instead of a 0–5 star rating. Those 56 businesses are included in the national and city counts, but excluded from the star percentages above so the two schemes aren't mixed.
🔍 Won't this miss Thai restaurants that don't have 'Thai' in their name? ▼
Yes. Restaurants such as Banana Tree, Patara and Busaba serve Thai food but don't trade under a name containing "Thai", so a name-based filter cannot see them. Conversely, we remove venues that carry "Thai" in the name but don't serve Thai food — massage parlours and grocery shops, for example — after manual review.
📊 Why do the regional tables say June 2026? ▼
The headline totals and this page's national figures are refreshed weekly from the FSA feed and were last updated on 19 October 2026. The region and city tables lower down were built from the June 2026 snapshot and will be regenerated from current data; we label them rather than letting two dated figures pass as one.
